Vol. 12 No. 1 (2023): EDUCATION AND AGING
The Statute of Elderly will have completed in 2023 two decades since its promulgation. Comprised of a number of precepts which intend to reduce or even end segregation, commonly faced by the elderly population due to prejudice, disrespect or neglect, the legal document is an important achievement for society as a whole. Beyond penalties expected in case of violation of rights, the law mentions the inclusion of the elderly in cultural, educational, and leisure spaces, as well as it stablishes that school curricula should be adapted, in order to include contents concerning the process of aging, the respect to the elderly as to preclude discrimination and generate knowledge on the theme. (Art.22). In this regard, it's important to think aging as a matter involving all the collectivity, especially because it brings some effects on youth, reflecting on how they grow old, not only the old age. Thus, this special edition intends to foster discussion on rights, challenges, borders, and possibilities among people who age in the contemporary world, plus ways the topic can be questioned in an educational environment. By reflecting on education and aging, one focused on teaching, creative & inclusive learning as well as different artistic and cultural approaches.
