The Importance of Teaching Law in Basic Education: Reflections from Teaching Practice

Abstract

This article addresses the teaching of notions of Law and the functioning of the national legal system in basic education through the following problem: How does the teaching of notions of Law and Legislation contribute to comprehensive and civic education in secondary education? The objective is to analyze and discuss the importance of teaching notions of Law and Legislation in basic secondary education, in dialogue with other expressions of knowledge and curricular components, with a view to building educational processes aimed at comprehensive and civic education. A theoretical-bibliographical methodological approach is adopted, based on a framework that considers the importance of knowledge of Law for the exercise of full citizenship. To contribute to the understanding of this topic and achieve the objectives outlined for this research, critical reflections on this theoretical contribution will be supported by professional teaching experience in the aforementioned context.
