Abstract

This study is an experience report focusing on the science of soap bubbles as a theme for the popularization of scientific knowledge. Its objective is to present and discuss the experimental and theoretical activities developed and implemented in a science fair booth at a Federal Educational Institution located in the Metropolitan Region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the interactions established with visiting audiences. The methodology was organized into two articulated phases: (i) the planning and testing of six multidisciplinary activities involving concepts from Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and the Arts; and (ii) the implementation of these activities during the science fair, grounded in participant research. The results indicate that the theme of soap bubbles fostered curiosity, playful-affective engagement, and the formulation of hypotheses among children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, it enabled contextualized discussions on properties of matter, optical phenomena, minimal surfaces, and environmental issues related to the use of accessible and reused materials. The observed interactions highlighted the science fair as a privileged space for dialogue between academic and everyday knowledge, reinforcing the relevance of multidisciplinarity in the popularization of science. It is concluded that the experience contributed to the initial education of the students involved and confirmed the potential of soap bubbles as a meaningful resource for future science communication initiatives in both formal and non-formal contexts.
