Abstract

The research problematizes the representation of endangered fauna in textbooks, considering that the scenario of biodiversity loss in Brazil has reached the critical index of 57.6% of faunal species. In this context, we investigated: in what way did the curricular transition between the disciplinary model (PNLD 2016) and the integrated model (PNLD 2020) affect the depth and progression of the approach to endangered species in textbooks? The objective was to identify, in High School Biology and Natural Sciences textbooks, the presence and approach of the content “Endangered Species”, highlighting conceptual and methodological gaps. Methodologically, the study was grounded in Content Analysis, according to the assumptions proposed by Laurence Bardin (2016), examining five textbook collections published in 2016 and 2020 in order to compare editions released before and after the New High School reform. The results demonstrated inequalities among the collections, a predominance of charismatic species, lack of continuity between grade levels, and scarce regional contextualization. As a conclusion, the study points to limitations in the approach to conservation, indicating the need for editorial revisions capable of fostering the construction of critical environmental citizenship.
