Abstract

This article presents the results of a research that analyzed the literature on the initial formation of teachers, focusing on the National Curricular Guidelines of 2015 and 2019, as well as the Guidelines for Extension in Brazilian Higher Education. The study aimed to understand the influence of these guidelines on teacher education in Brazil. Employing a systematic literature review methodological procedure, the study highlights key trends, gaps, and challenges within the field. It distinguishes between “state of the art” and “state of knowledge”, underscoring the significance of both approaches for academic progress. The text develops a critical analysis of the guidelines, contributing to a deeper understanding of teacher education practices and the relevance of integrating extension into the curriculum. It intends to foster constructive dialogue on the guidelines and advocate for continuous improvement in teacher training practices in Brazil.
