A Historiographical Analysis of the IFRJ Interactive Science Space: Supporting the Strengthening of Educational Actions and Dialogue with the Surrounding Community

Abstract

This study is a historical investigation of the relationship between a science museum belonging to the Federal Network for Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education (RFEPCT) and the surrounding community. The ECI is located on the Avançado Mesquita campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ). This article aims to understand how a historiographical analysis of the ECI can strengthen educational practices, initiatives, projects, and research and enhance dialogue with the surrounding community. A bibliographic search of the ECI was conducted for subsequent analysis using Free Interpretation Analysis (ALI). The search yielded nine articles, three book chapters, one dissertation, and two final-year theses. However, only one thesis and one book chapter directly address the history of the ECI, and neither addresses the historiographical issue. Thus, precise information regarding the institution’s history could not be found; a significant gap was found in the literature regarding the ECI's emergence, construction, development, and consolidation. In this regard, we emphasize the importance of organizing, presenting, and disseminating the history and memories of this space. As the results of this article confirm, the ECI has played a fundamental role in education and scientific dissemination.

    Bachelor's and Licentiate degrees in History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2013). He also completed a postgraduate degree (specialization) in African and Black History in Brazil from Cândido Mendes University (2017). He is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Professional and Technological Education in the National Network (PROFEPT) at the IFRJ Mesquita campus. He has experience in History, with an emphasis on the History of the Republic of Brazil.
