The Class Became a Slide: Teaching Sociology Between Screens and Resistance

Abstract

The article addresses the difficulties of teaching Sociology in public schools in São Paulo under the High School Reform policy. This policy compartmentalizes scientific knowledge, making it easier for corporations to influence and normalize certain discourses. The State Education Secretary of São Paulo (SEDUC-SP) has intensified the process of educational patronization to implement the project, which has compromised teachers’ autonomy and undermined the theoretical and epistemological foundations of Sociology teaching. An examination of the materials provided by SEDUC for teachers reveals that these standardized resources for teaching are outdated and hinder the application of diverse and dialogic teaching methods. These materials lack credibility and contain errors, resulting in an unrealistic teaching plan with superficial content resembling what is often found on social media, assuming that students are primarily digital platform users whose attention needs to be captivated.
