Abstract

Higher Education Institutions need to adapt to the ongoing changes in the current global context. In this scenario, they seek to expand their reach through the internationalization of education, promoting a multicultural and collaborative learning environment. Thus, Academic Mobility programs emerge as one of the main strategies for the international expansion of education. This report aims to describe the experience of international academic mobility during nursing school, in an exchange program between Brazil and Portugal. This is a descriptive study of the experience report developed at the School of Health Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and the Santo André Hospital – District Hospital of Leiria, in the city of Leiria, Portugal, from September 2023 to February 2024. The report highlights the exchange program trajectory and the benefits related to both personal development and contributions to academic training; it also  identifies the main challenges faced, such as adaptating to a new culture and overcoming difficulties related to the practice of nursing. The experience has enhanced academic, professional and personal training, as well as broadened the understanding of Nursing practice in a global context, thus enriching the perspective on performance and encouraging the pursuit of better practices and innovations in nursing.
