Abstract

The study addresses the pedagogical practices of Physical Education teachers who teach in basic education at a federal institution in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil The purpose is to investigate the connections between the pedagogical practices developed and decolonial studies, in order to promote and enhance meaningful learning and the integral formation of the student. A semi-structured questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument, followed by qualitative analysis. The theoretical contribution was based on decolonial studies, approaches to meaningful learning and integral education, as well as on investigations in the area of Physical Education. Pedagogical practices reported by teachers consider decolonial pedagogy as a subsidy and distance themselves from a passive and reproductive posture of mostly Eurocentric scientific knowledge. In this way, teachers are co-responsible subjects for the educational process by reconstructing knowledge, cultures and knowledge that strengthen students’ autonomy and enrich their identities, making learning meaningful and focused on the integral formation of students.
