Abstract

This article aims to evaluate how the active Case Study methodology has been used to contribute to teaching and learning processes in the context of Brazilian education. The development of the research consisted of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the steps: 1. Definition of the question; 2. Search for evidence; 3. Review and selection of studies; 4. Analysis of the methodological quality of the studies; and 5. Presentation of results. The data was collected by carrying out three surveys in CAPES Periodicals, including Web Of Science and Science Direct. The following keywords were used: “Case Study”, “Active Methodologies” and “Brazil”; “case-based learning” AND “Active Methodology”; and “Case Study” AND “Active Methodology”. After screening the articles by applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of nine articles remained which were analyzed since they were in line with the objective of this research. Analysis of selected articles, considering the use and application of the active Case Study methodology, showed that it still focuses on higher education institutions and health-related areas, with only two works developed in basic education. The results demonstrated that the majority of students and teachers participating in the research were satisfied with the development of self-confidence and decision-making in their respective areas of work.

Keywords: Case-Based Learning. Teaching and learning. Active Methodologies.
