Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this work was to analyze the virtual spaces of Brazilian science museums, in order to identify and characterize the materials produced in these spaces that involve the content of Chemistry in the context of science education. For this, the websites of science museums registered in Brazil were investigated, as well as the virtual museums, using the Guide of Science Centers and Museums in Brazil of the Brazilian Association of Science Centers and Museums and the Museumsbr platform. The purpose of the research was to select the virtual environments that allowed some degree of interaction with the public, therefore, museums that correspond to Piacente's (1996) classification of Museums in the Virtual World and Really Interactive Museums were selected, in addition to the classification of Virtual Museums, which cover the content of Chemistry (BRASIL, 2011). Thus, 10 virtual environments of museums in Brazil were found within the criteria presented, none of which corresponded to the classification of Virtual Museum, which shows the lack of this resource in Brazilian science museums. As for the region of these spaces, seven of the ten virtual environments of the selected museums correspond to museums located in the Southeast region, following the trend of concentration of these spaces in the country in the same region. The materials found in the virtual spaces were games, videos, science communication texts, theater plays, virtual exhibitions, online collections and virtual visits. Despite this, it was possible to notice that Chemistry still has less representation in these spaces when compared to other scientific fields.
