This study has as its theme Science Education and Scientific Diffusion implemented by the National Institutes of Science and Technology (INCT). The INCT Program, created in 2008 by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), has the transfer of knowledge to society as one of its missions, which was the core of the analysis of this study. This work aimed to carry out a survey and analysis of scientific diffusion and science education activities within the scope of the INCTs. This is a descriptive and quantitative research. A documental analysis was carried out in the files of the final reports of the surveys contemplated in Public Call nº 15/2008. As a data analysis technique, varied or multivariate descriptive statistics were performed. The results showed that, even in the face of specific induction and funding in the INCT Program for the transfer of knowledge to society, the INCTs carried out scientific communications activities (for society in general) and science education in smaller quantities compared to the actions of scientific dissemination (to the public of specialists), which were predominant. This finding is relevant to boost actions by researchers and research institutes in the field of public communication of science and science education, as well as to guide public management in science and technology in search of new strategies to expand scientific communication to society.
