The purpose of this article is to investigate information from the life, profession and training histories of university professors in the Teaching of Natural Sciences area, working at the Faculty of Education, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. This is a qualitative documentary research, whose applied methodology was based on the use of two sources: autobiographical narratives, derived from interviews publicly available on the digital portal of the aforementioned university; of the subjects' Lattes curriculum. From this, content analysis was used to interpret the collected data. The results indicate that several elements are present in the construction of the trajectory of each teacher, namely: the experiences lived in basic education, the role of the family, teachers who were a reference, carrying out social work, the search for a change of profession, the experiences lived in graduation and even circumstantial choices. It was found that: the academic education of university professors were compatible with the held positions; the type of involvement with work was heterogeneous among the subjects, varying between teaching, research and extension activities. The results found make it possible to identify important contributions from the use of autobiographical narratives in research in Education, with a view to deepening understandings about the training paths of professionals who work as teacher trainers for Basic Education.
