Abstract

The objective of this study is to carry out an intersection between literature and visual arts, having as the object of study the female character, Carla, by Alice Munro (2001), protagonist in the short story Runaway. In order to do that, a selection of excerpts from the short story is made, which expresses the profile and experiences of this character, in order to create watercolor works that graphically expose the affection that such experiences produced in her body. Initially, the text exposes a historical background that interrelates these domains, under the concept of interpretation. Next, a discussion about the term affection is posed which is a key concept to approach both languages: literature and visual arts. Finally, the excerpts of the short story are situated as well as a series of graphical works that try to express the proposal of this study, a transposition from the verbal to the visual setting, which narrates and translates one of the  many  possible readings to the passages.
