Abstract

This article presents some elements for the debate on the relationship between the public and the private as societal projects in dispute and on the way in which the recent process of building democracy guided the theme of diversity policies in Brazil. When analyzing the movement of the real in our research based on bibliographic analysis, we observe that not only subjects linked to the market, but also to neoconservatism and neofascism are disputing their societal projects in educational policies. Our historical clipping begins in the 1980s, with the country's redemocratization process, and reaches the present day, highlighting the contradictions that guided the construction of these policies and the losses after the 2016 coup d'état. We conclude that diversity plays an important role in expanding the very concept of democracy, understood here as social and economic equality and respect for differences.
