The COVID-19 pandemic was considered the biggest challenge imposed on education systems in history, putting more than a billion children away from their schools around the world and forcing education systems to work with restrictions for months. In this context, digital solutions and products were one of the strategies that allowed the continuity of school learning in the period. Edtech companies benefited from the explosion in demand for their products and services, registering revenue records, expansion and investments. This documental study analyzes the news coverage of the subject made by the newspapers Folha de S.Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo in the years 2018 to 2021. Using content analysis as a methodological reference (CRESWELL, 2010), we sought to identify how edtech companies were portrayed by newspapers and what ideas and concepts surround the subject. We dialogue with the reflections of Sibilia (2012) and Serres (2013) on the perception of inadequacy of the school in contemporary times and with the studies of Selwyn (2013; 2019) on digital technologies as a discursive arena in which the transformation of the school is in discussion. As a result of this study, it was possible to identify that the expansion of edtech companies, as well as the increase in the use of digital products and services that they develop and market, were portrayed in a notoriously positive way by the newspapers, being associated with the ability to improve and modernize teaching institutions and teaching-learning processes.
