Abstract

The article introduces the concept of the commodification of higher education based on distance education, presenting a brief critical diagnosis. The objective is to reflect on three views on the commodification of distance higher education, with a focus on the positioning of the business sector of the Federal Government through its educational policies and the academic universe. In this way, it is demonstrated what are the most relevant points in each of the views on commodification. Methodologically, qualitative research was carried out, supported by bibliographic and documentary research, which is justified by seeking to contribute to the discussion and reflection on education currently, since it is strongly guided by the forms of the precariousness of teaching, among them the distance education model. Based on the research carried out, it is concluded that this education model mentioned above is growing and the discourse of preparation for the job market is adopted, governed by economic criteria, making knowledge a profitable good focused on professional specialization. As there is no pretense of exhausting the topic, it is suggested to continue the study with other topics linked to commodification, such as the issue of privatization, financialization, and outsourcing, all intrinsically linked to the higher education market.
