Abstract

Abstract: This article consists of a report from a teaching project developed in the Sociology discipline with students from a technical computer course integrated with high school. In addressing the theme of social inequalities, we intend to understand gender inequalities from women insertion in the information technology area. In addition, we seek to retrieve the history of female computer scientists who contributed to the development of this area and promove the listening of women students and professionals in the area; aiming to understand the place they occupy in this scenario and how they feel about the fact they are women and work in a sector that, in general, has predominantly male presence. The project was developed from theoretical studies on inequalities, from data analysis on gender inequality and from the inclusion of women in information technology. From the discussions that took place in class, the proposal was to hold an exhibition on female computer scientists emerged, and also to record a documentary showing narratives of women working in computer science. The development of this activity enabled those involved to reflect more deeply on the topic and to awaken in order to identify situations of inequality and gender discrimination, triggering the need for following up with actions that promote discussion about this topic.
