Abstract

Abstract: Educational Evaluation contributes to study existing problems in Brazilian higher education institutions, such as the retention and dropout of undergraduate students. This article aimed to identify the reasons for failure and which aspects need more attention to improve undergraduate students' performance in the Technology Center (CT) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). In this way, it was possible to offer subsidies to the UFC higher administration to formulate strategies to improve the performance indicators of undergraduate students in the CT. This study uses applied research with a quantitative and descriptive approach. To this end, descriptive analysis was used on a sample of 23,913 classes of disciplines in undergraduate courses at the CT of the UFC in a time series from 2015.1 to 2022.2. As a result, this research identified the disciplines that most contribute to the failure of undergraduate students at the Technology Center (CT) of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). Therefore, research showed that unsuccessful disciplines of the initial semesters favor the retention and dropout of the undergraduate courses of the CT since these disciplines are prerequisites for the disciplines of the subsequent semesters.
