SPECIFICITIES OF SOCIOLOGY IN INTEGRATED SECONDARY SCHOOL: CONTRIBUTIONS TO A DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL UNDERSTANDING

Abstract: The debate about the performance of sociology in basic education is fraught with challenges, including the one related to the expansion of the teaching of sociology in new education spaces. As important as the content taught is how it can be taught. Thus, this research asks: What are the specificities and the reality of sociology teaching in Basic, Technical and Technological Education (EBTT)? How to develop the sociological subjects in a reality experienced by the students? To what extent can sociology, as a science, and the teaching of sociology contribute to development by stimulating reflection on the self, the environment and the historical context? The study intended was to analyze the profile of the students, their representations about the discipline, the role of the research in secondary school, as well as the methodological characteristics of the discipline, by using the quantitative and qualitative methods. Initially, bibliographical research was carried out, focusing on the teaching of sociology, as well as educational activities and debates with scholars, in order to identify potentialities, abilities and difficulties of students in relation to sociology, information acquired through systematic observation and application of questionnaires to students. Finally, the data analysis and the elaboration of didactic materials took place. It is concluded that sociological approach can contribute to the development of learners' capacities, that is, it can enable students to make choices, to problematize the environment, their experiences and life history by leveraging development as a way of freedom.
