Creating and solving problems: skills to be mobilized with ungraduated in Mathematics

The present study aims to show and discuss a teaching proposal that mobilizes the skills of creating and solving problems in Mathematics undergraduates, having as the object of knowledge the rational numbers, in order to envision the Mathematics teacher a possibility of how to develop in classroom such skills. A script adapted from the literature was used to assess the ability of a group of undergraduates to create problems by variation and elaboration. The procedure for creating new problems and their solution, proposed by colleagues, was developed over two face-to-face two-hour meetings. Based on the participants’ records and the researchers’ observations, it was possible to verify that the students are able to create new problems with small variations from the initial problems. In addition, it is considered that the creation of problems is an important strategy to stimulate creativity and improve understanding of mathematical and didactic concepts.
